Building resilience for young people in your school

On Tuesday 3 December two of our Trustees, Richard Parker & Tony Clifford, were invited to co-present a webinar at the Rees Centre, Oxford University. The session was chaired by Michelle Johnson, virtual headteacher for Oxfordshire County Council.

Richard and Tony explored the origins of the Bath Spa Attachment Aware Schools programme, its roll out nationally and the establishment of the ARC, which now has over 500 school members. They gave practical examples of current school activities in this area, based on the winners of the 2019 Alex Timpson ARC Award, given by Sir John Timpson in memory of his late wife, quoting Sir John’s exhortation to ‘Run schools the way you think they should be run, not for Ofsted or league tables…Let every individual child have the opportunity to work to the best of their abilities. Show it works, do it well and make a difference!’

Over 40 participants logged in to the webinar and the presentation was followed by a lively question and answer session. Bath Spa and the ARC will continue to work closely with the Rees Centre in its research into the reach and effectiveness of attachment and trauma aware approaches in schools.
